If you are already in the UK with a leave to remain as a Tier 2 General Migrant, you can apply for an extension of your leave either before the expiry of your leave or if you are changing your employer. You will need a new Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) to make an application for an extension of stay as a Tier 2 General Migrant. If you are continuing the same job with the same employer, your employer will not have to carry out the Resident Labour Market Test (RLMT) to assign you a unrestricted Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) for your extension application. However, if you are changing your employer, your new employer (a prospective Tier 2 sponsor) may have to carry out the Resident Labour Market Test (RLMT) before assigning you an unrestricted Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) unless an exemption from the Resident Labour Market Test (RLMT) applies. If you are applying for an extension of your Tier 2 General leave following the change of employment, you can continue working for your previous sponsor until the start date on your new certificate of sponsorship if your current permission to stay is still valid.

You cannot apply for an extension if you are applying from outside the UK. You must also meet all other requirements of the rules including the job being skilled at appropriate level, your salary being as per the Home Office salary limit for your particular code of practice, etc.
